WHO IS BEHIND SPAIN AND THE CHEF?

Spain and the Chef is an exciting culinary adventure project run by me, Óscar González, professional chef and guide based in Sevilla, Spain. With Spain and the Chef, I have made my dream of sharing my passions with other passionate foodie travelers come true. But I wouldn't be able to do all of it without my partner, Jasmin, who plays a significant role behind the scenes of Spain and the Chef. You can learn more about us on our about page.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR

SPAIN AND THE CHEF?

Additionally to being a vocational chef and loving my profession, I am a passionate traveler, who discovers places through their traditional gastronomy. 

I still vividly remember my last grand trip to Peru, where a great friend took me by the hand, and for a month, taking all the time the adventure demanded, we traversed the country from top to bottom. From meal to meal, from dinner to dinner, and from breakfast to breakfast. I was fortunate to get to know Peru in a way I never could have alone. From the perspective of a professional chef, I was able to understand the Peruvian culture in a deeper way, making connections between their food and their history that are implicit and invisible to most tourists. The idea to offer this experience to other travelers has been inside my head for many years, waiting to take shape. 

That is the goal of Spain and the Chef: to introduce you to the peculiarities that make Andalusia, that make Spain, a country worth savoring. Those gastronomic curiosities and little things that only the curious, expert, and knowledgeable eye has access to.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO DISCOVER A CULTURE WITH A CHEF?

Imagine exploring a new culture and its food with a friend who is super excited about local ingredients and traditional recipes, knows their cultural context and nutritional benefits. This friend shares his culinary expertise together with anecdotes from the kitchen and family cooking, explains culinary etiquette and how to avoid common “faux pas”. Someone with local connections, who guides you to the best hidden gems to taste typical dishes and provides tips on how to select ingredients and recreate recipes at home. 

Imagine exploring local markets together, shopping for the best ingredients to then transform them into authentic dishes, while sipping a glass of wine and chatting about their family´s  culinary secrets and the stories and legends behind each dish. 

No matter if you are here for the week-long culinary immersion or just spend a few hours on a private food tour. If you are a food enthusiast, you will never want to travel another way.
